How many diapers should I buy?How many diapers will I need?Determining how many diapers you need depends on the age of your baby and how often you do wash. Newborns will go through up to 12 diapers a day! Here are our suggestions (based on washing every 3 days):
If you choose an all-in-one or fitted diaper system instead of prefolds, you may wish to buy fewer diapers and wash more frequently. If using prefolds, we suggest 36 of the infant and 24 of the premium size diapers. For most babies, this will take you through to potty training. What about covers?Unless you are using all-in-ones or pocket diapers (i.e. bumGenius!, Bumkins, Fuzzi Bunz), you will need them. Four covers in each size is a bare minimum; 6 is a popular number. Polyester or nylon covers can be air dried and used later in the day if just wet and not soiled. These are very popular for daytime. Wool and fleece covers are especially popular at night because they are so breathable. Wool covers do require special care and hand washing, but they are natural and breathable and absorbent, and they can be hung to dry between wearings if not soiled. Fleece covers have to be washed after each wearing, but washing is easy as can be. Most fleece covers can be popped in with your diapers on any setting in washer and dryer. Next |
