Chinese Prefolds

Soft and Fluffy
Chinese prefolds will look flat and stiff like fine linen when new. Once washed they will soften and thicken (quilt up) beautifully. Wash the white ones in hot water a couple of times before first use, and the natural ones 5-6 times.

Diaper Service Quality
Yes, these are the same prefolds the diaper services use! However, ours may be better than the diaper service prefolds you have on hand. Some diaper services buy their prefolds from India, Pakistan, or Mexico. We carry the "true" Chinese prefolds imported by boat from China.

Prefold Sizes
Our chart shows stitching color (on ends), ply (number of layers), and dimensions before washing. Expect approximately 10% shrinkage.

Regular 4x6x4
The Regular 4x6x4 prefolds have two less layers in the center than our Premium prefolds making them less bulky. These are just perfect to use as an extra nighttime diaper for added absorbency or for babies who are "in-between" the infant and premium sizes. Some moms on a tight budget choose these instead of infant prefolds. They will still be big on your newborn, but not as big as the premium size. This size is also very popular for burp cloths.

Which size diapers should I choose?

• Most of our customers choose infant size for babies from birth to 15 lbs. At 15 lbs you "graduate" up into the premium size which will likely be a bit big in the beginning. The majority of our customers use just these 2 sizes of diaper from birth to potty training.
• Moms who embroider burp cloths order our regular white diapers because they are a great size for a burp cloth, and they have white stitching on the ends. The regular is also popular for petite babies over 15 lbs and as an "in-between" diaper when the infant size seems too small and the premium size seems too big.
• Toddler size is just a tad longer than the premium size. The main difference is in the waist. More room in the waist offers you more room for pinning or using a snappi fastener and also offers some added absorbency. If you don't fasten the diaper but just pop it into the cover, you needn't worry about having extra room at the waist. You might decide to get a few toddlers to have on hand for naps or nighttime or just make due with the premium size.

Which diapers, which covers?
In general, you will use the following diaper sizes with the following covers.

• Infant prefolds = newborn or small covers (small fits best)
• Premium prefolds = medium or large covers
• Toddler prefolds = large or x-large covers

The Infant Chinese prefolds will fit best into small sized covers although most newborn covers can be used. Most moms decide to make due with small covers since newborn covers may be outgrown in just a couple of weeks. If you want a perfect fit from birth, you may use a few newborn covers with:

• Kissaluvs size 0 diapers
• Preemie size Chinese prefolds
  
• Soakers or doublers

What is the difference between the natural and the white Chinese prefolds?
The natural unbleached and the white Chinese prefolds are the same wonderful prefolds. The only difference is that the white ones have been bleached (with hydrogen peroxide) during manufacture and the natural ones have not. The white ones are white, and the natural ones a light beige color. The natural prefolds do contain natural oils which are always found in unbleached natural cotton. A few washes in VERY hot water will remove the oils which are harmless but affect absorbency. The white prefolds need less washes (only 2) before first use. For more washing tips click here.
